The Arabian Gulf is regularly occupied by immense ships, many of which are operated through the most formidable engines and top-of-the-line generators. Even the most experienced ship-owners and marine aficionados can’t help but stand in awe when massive fleets sail past them and through the gulf on a daily basis. Whether it be oil tankers, commercial vessels, consumer vessels, or otherwise, the marine power sector assists in bringing these vessels to life. Al Masaood Group; is an impeccable maritime service provider and its’ Abu Dhabi headquartered power division is contributing to the optimization of vessel operation and efficiency in the region.

The Maritime life chord

The importance of the marine power sector cannot be overstated. It is responsible for enabling vessels to sail and conduct operations which are necessary for the success of maritime. Vessels are used to transport goods, being responsible for over 90% of the world’s trade, and this directly translates to the industry’s economic capital. This means that the importance of a powerful and capable generator is something which cannot be overemphasized.

Rasso Bartenschlager, General Manager, Al Masaood LLC, Power Division, commented on the company’s provision of robust power generation systems saying, “Al Masaood Power Division has established a long standing reputation within the power industry worldwide. We have a peerless expertise in marine propulsion and power generation systems. Our workshops serve as the backbone of the vessels by ensuring power generators are operating at peak performance. Al Masaood Power Division is not just a service provider, it is a fully integrated solution provider and we take pride in that.”

Going above and beyond expectations

Bartenschlager stated, “Our services extend beyond providing manpower and engine power needed to move vessels through waters. We also provide a full provision plan – from onboard engines, power generators, key boxes, information systems, to maintenance and aftersales services. Our power division works around the clock to satisfy client requirements and ensure high functioning vessels.”

Al Masaood Power Division offers an inclusive integration and installation plan. This holistic provision of services allows contractors to come directly to Al Masaood Power Division as opposed to the end user. Bartenschlager clarified saying, “When a ship comes directly to our facilities, we provide them with a fully integrated solution plan and whatever else is necessary to move their vessel at a certain speed and power. This is what sets us apart; because we are not just focusing only on selling our services but providing solutions after the fact as well.”

Sustainable growth

With the maritime industry continually evolving, companies must be willing to adapt to thrive. Al Masaood Power Division demonstrates a firm understanding of this through its flexible approach. Bartenschlager said, “We develop and move with market trends. In the past, the company focused on reactive services and solutions. Understanding that times are changing, we now conduct our own market research to determine the status of the market and what the future holds. This allows us to adapt our generators accordingly.”

With the global maritime sector on the cusp of transitioning into IMO2020, Al Masaood Power Division has aligned its efforts with the shipping industry’s desire to operate in a greener manner. Stringently administering environmental research to develop complimentary integrated solutions, the company has also implemented sustainable technologies and services.

Invested for the future

To bolster the UAE’s economy and highlight the country’s potential, Al Masaood has emphasized Emiratization. The company’s platinum member ICV (In-Country Value) standing is reflective of this. Bartenschlager revealed, “The group is initiating many CSR initiatives which support, train and develop local manpower. This includes working with local educational institutes to recruit students for a two-year program. Within the first year the company trains the students and teaches them the inner workings of the industry. During the second year, students are granted an opportunity to showcase their skills by taking on a prominent role within the company. This guarantees a career path for students and ensures they are adequately prepared to take on the task at hand.”

With 50% of the company’s operations being conducted country, this further reinforces the importance of utilizing the UAE’s local resources. While looking to make the most of its three local branches (Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah), Al Masaood Power Division is also looking to build upon its regional presence. With a facility also operational in Bahrain, the company has plans to expand into Kuwait and Oman in the near future.

Bartenschlager commented saying, “The time where money is spent for low value services is over. Businesses are looking for the best value for their investments and that’s what we are doing today. After staring off as a government focused facility which highlighted Military General Headquarters (GHQ) as its primary client – the company has now evolved to include more customer vessels and commercial boats. With 35,000 machines operating in our main headquarters, we are well-equipped for any task at hand. The main challenges that remains is always trying to work faster and deliver more.

With a 12% success rate in the aftersales services annually, 19% sales growth and 60% increase in the power generation production, Al Masaood Power Division is positioned to remain a fixture within the maritime industry for many more decades to come.
